'We will stay and face challenges together': Residents share why the UAE's Pledge and Commitment initiative resonated with them

Dubai: For some UAE residents, signing the UAE's Pledge and Commitment initiative was more than a symbolic gesture. It was an opportunity to express values they have witnessed firsthand for years: unity, coexistence, loyalty and a shared commitment to a country that people from around the world now call home.The initiative, launched by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, allows members of the UAE community to express their appreciation for the leadership of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his role in strengthening national security, social cohesion and stability.Among those who signed the pledge was 40-year-old Emirati Ali Al Falasi, who said he was motivated by his belief in the values on which the UAE was built.What motivated me to sign the pledge is a feeling shared not only by Emiratis, but also by the many people from different nationalities who call the UAE home, he said.This blessed country has provided opportunities, safety, security, healthcare, education, development and prosperity to everyone. Here, people are treated with dignity and respect, and everyone has the opportunity to grow and succeed regardless of their background.Al Falasi said one of the UAE's defining strengths has been its ability to emerge stronger from every challenge it faces.The UAE has faced many challenges throughout its history, but what makes our country unique is that every challenge has made it stronger and better than before, he said.This reflects the vision of our wise leadership, which has always anticipated the future and prepared the nation for challenges before they arise.'We stand together'Al Falasi said recent regional developments reinforced something he has observed repeatedly throughout his life in the UAE: the willingness of people from different backgrounds to stand together during difficult times.Emiratis and expatriates stand together as one community, he said.I have friends and colleagues from different nationalities who were among the first to send messages expressing that they would never leave this country – a country that gave them opportunities, welcomed them and became their home. They said, 'We will stay here, and we will face challenges together'.According to Al Falasi, those sentiments are the result of decades of leadership that prioritised fairness, respect and humanity.As an Emirati, what makes me most proud is that the UAE has not only built a successful nation, but also created a unique model of coexistence where people from different cultures, religions and backgrounds live together in harmony.A message that reached thousandsFor 31-year-old content creator Anil Lobo, the initiative inspired him to do more than simply sign the pledge.The Indian national posted a video sharing his experience and asked his followers to let him know if they’d like to sign the pledge as well, sharing the link to the pledge to whoever commented.The last count on his comments? 18,000.Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Lobo said: “I came to the UAE for a job and moved on to being a content creator and now I have my own content creation agency.When you're living here for so many years, and with everything that happened recently, this made it feel like you are also being heard in a way. It was just a small way in which I could contribute back. It was a way for me to show that I stand with the country.'A land of dreams and possibilities'Indonesian executive chef Mulyapna Sarpiono described the UAE as a place where people from around the world are given the opportunity to build better lives.The UAE, for me, is a land of dreams, unity and endless possibilities, he said.He said signing the pledge was a simple but meaningful way to express gratitude.Even if we can't do more than this, this is the smallest gesture which allows us to show our love for the UAE, he said.It is a place that makes sure people are happy, that people from all over the world can live here and be treated the same, and get the same opportunities in life.'Pledged and committed'For Abu Dhabi resident Dr Aya Haikal, the initiative carried particular significance because the UAE is the only home she has ever known.Sharing her certificate of appreciation on social media under the title ‘Pledged and Committed’, the Egyptian national said the initiative reflected values that continue to shape communities across the country.Having been born and raised in the UAE, I have witnessed its remarkable journey of growth and its commitment to creating opportunities for everyone, she said. This country has shaped my values and my journey, and I am grateful to be part of a community that continues to inspire excellence, innovation, and giving back.As more residents continue to participate in the initiative, many say the pledge has become a reflection of something larger than a certificate or online campaign: a shared belief that despite coming from different backgrounds, they are all part of the same community.
