Travellers leave sport pitches 'damaged and covered in litter' after breaking through locks and invading pitch

A group of travellers with 20 caravans broke into Thetford Town Youth FC's grounds on Mundford Road last Friday afternoon, forcing their way through by destroying locks and causing damage to the main entrance gate.The unauthorised occupants arrived at approximately 3pm and proceeded to drive vehicles repeatedly across the club's match pitches over the following days.The group remained on site until Sunday evening, finally departing at around half past seven.During their occupation, club volunteers maintained a constant presence to safeguard the facilities, with chairman Nigel Armes stating they had been on full alert throughout the ordeal.
