Louvre Reopens Gallery Hit by Heist With One Big Change

Louvre Reopens Gallery Hit by Heist With One Big Change

LOU BENOIST / via REUTERSThe Louvre Museum reopened its Apollo Gallery on Wednesday, nine months after thieves pulled off a daring heist of about 102 million worth of crown jewels. But visitors returning to the gallery will notice one major change: jewels are no longer on display. Instead, they will be exhibited elsewhere in the museum in a more secure location, Louvre director Christophe Leribault told Reuters. The Apollo Gallery, created under the young King Louis XIV, inspired the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. The decision followed an October robbery in which two men used a movers’ lift to reach a second-story window in broad daylight, smashed their way inside, cracked open display cases with angle grinders, and escaped on scooters driven by two accomplices. The raid lasted less than seven minutes. The stolen jewels remain missing, except a crown belonging to Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, that was found damaged near the Paris museum and is undergoing restoration. Four people suspected of direct involvement have been charged and placed in custody. Culture Minister Catherine Pegard called the robbery a “trauma for the whole world” and vowed to ramp up security at museums nationwide.Read it at ReutersRead more at The Daily Beast.

Trump Goon’s Jaw-Dropping Phone Call After a Killing Is Leaked

Trump Goon’s Jaw-Dropping Phone Call After a Killing Is Leaked

Evelyn Hockstein / REUTERSProsecutors struggled to pick their jaws up off the floor on a phone call with Greg Bovino that took place between the fatal shooting of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota. “These people are wackos,” Bovino, 56, said of protesters in Minneapolis during the exchange. CNN reports that the call took place after the former Border Patrol chief’s agents had shot Renee Nicole Good, 37, dead in the street on January 7, and before they killed another protester, Alex Pretti, also 37, just weeks later on January 24.The network notes that Good’s killing did not appear to have made Bovino more cautious about containing the violence that later also claimed Pretti’s life. “The s--t is getting ready to come,” he told prosecutors. “We’re not putting up with anything in this city. It’s coming. We’re not going to calm it down, we’re going to put it down.”Read more at The Daily Beast.

Madeleine McCann’s Brother Set to Represent Scotland on World Stage

Jamie Squire / Getty Images for Commonwealth SpThe brother of Madeleine McCann is set to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on Friday. Sean McCann, brother of the three-year-old who went missing from her family’s vacation apartment in Portugal in 2007, will be representing Scotland in the competition, which brings together 71 countries and territories that were mostly former outposts of the British Empire. The 21-year-old swimmer placed fifth in the 400-meter freestyle (1300 feet) at the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2023, and also competed in the 10-kilometer race (6 miles) at the 2025 European Open Water Championships in Croatia. McCann, who started swimming at eight years old, is hoping to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The McCann family became the center of one of the most high-profile missing person cases 19 years ago when massive and costly police searches took place across Europe for Madeleine. She was never found, nor has her abductor been identified, despite potential suspects. The prime suspect, Christian Brueckner, a convicted sex offender, has never been formally charged with Madeleine’s disappearance and denies all involvement. Sean, who was two at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance, has never spoken publicly about the incident.Read it at News.com.auRead more at The Daily Beast.

‘Seinfeld’ Star Breaks Silence on ‘Inappropriate’ Behavior

Bobby Bank/Rodin Eckenroth/GettyJason Alexander has issued an apology for the 2012 Funny or Die comedy sketch that got him called out by then-17-year-old Courtney Stodden, who said the Seinfeld star “repeatedly” touched her inappropriately during their scene together. In Stodden’s Monday Instagram post, she wrote that she “didn’t understand” why Alexander “rubbed his phone across my breasts” several times during Funny or Die’s The Donny Clay Show—which parodies motivational TV hosts like Dr. Phil—and joked that “he’d like to take me behind the couch and ‘have his way’ with me,” as she was 17 years old at the time. Fugitive Hid in Plain Sight for Decades as Biotech Executive

Fugitive Hid in Plain Sight for Decades as Biotech Executive

Rhode Island State PoliceA Rhode Island fugitive who disappeared during his 2005 rape trial allegedly spent the next 21 years living under a false identity as a Los Angeles biotech executive before authorities finally caught up with him. Ronald Fischer, who prosecutors say fled while on trial for raping a woman aboard a yacht in 2003, was arrested last week after federal authorities intercepted his yacht off the coast of New Jersey. Investigators say Fischer, 70, had been living as “Richard Graydon,” building a successful career in the biotech industry while owning a 56-foot yacht and cultivating a reputation as a world traveler and accomplished yachtsman. According to an SEC filing, West Los Angeles-based Immix Biopharma terminated the employment of Richard Graydon on July 17, shortly after Fischer’s arrest, saying the decision was unrelated to his work at the company. The revelation has prompted scrutiny of the firm’s hiring practices, while a law firm representing investors says it has opened an inquiry into whether the company or its leadership violated federal securities laws.Read more at The Daily Beast.

Manic Trump, 80, Fires Off All-Caps Rant in Morning Meltdown

Manic Trump, 80, Fires Off All-Caps Rant in Morning Meltdown

Jonathan Ernst / REUTERSPresident Donald Trump greeted Arizona’s primary results with an unhinged morning Truth Social blast. “MAGA CANDIDATES WON EVERYTHING LAST NIGHT IN ARIZONA, A COMPLETE SWEEP!!! I WON ARIZONA 18 MONTHS AGO. THE DUMOCRATS ARE DUMBFOUNDED. AFTER DECADES, ARIZONA IS BECOMING A REPUBLICAN STATE. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he posted at 9:30 a.m., seemingly unaware, or unbothered, that these were Republican primary wins, not a general election sweep against Democrats. The rant came after Arizona Republicans nominated a cast of characters that would make even seasoned election watchers do a double-take. Rep. Andy Biggs, a Trump-backed Freedom Caucus rabble-rouser who voted against certifying the 2020 election, easily won the gubernatorial primary and will now face Gov. Katie Hobbs in November. Biggs was also backed by the political wing of the conservative powerhouse Turning Point USA.Read more at The Daily Beast.

Republicans Panic That Trump Is Creating a Blue Wave

Carlos Barria/REUTERSRepublicans are bracing for a blue wave at the midterms, as a result of President Donald Trump’s manic leadership. For months, the 80-year-old has insisted he could manage the Iran conflict on his own terms: hit hard, force a deal, and keep the United States out of another long Middle East war. Instead, the U.S. and Iran are escalating strikes, more American service members are dead, gas prices are climbing again, and Republicans working to preserve their congressional majorities are contemplating a scenario they once viewed as unthinkable.Read more at The Daily Beast.
