Tiny Sloth Baby Doesn't Want to Be Weighed
Can you read what the scales say? How much do you think this tiny sloth weighed? We first shared this video in January last year, but the story has recently gained a little more attention after being shared by The Dodo, so we thought it was the perfect time for a throwback. As you can see, the baby was not remotely interested in letting go of mum. Baby sloths have an incredibly strong grip, and this little one was clearly determined to prove it. The team worked very slowly and gently to separate them for the check-up, while mum stayed close by. They were reunited straight afterwards, much to the baby’s relief. The family of three had been found in the Santa Elena hills of Nicoya, far outside their natural range, raising concerns that they may have been victims of the illegal wildlife trade. SINAC confiscated the sloths and led the operation, while our team supported with safe transport and initial veterinary checks. Sloths are a very rare case for us in Costa Rica, so the family was soon transferred to specialist carers who could give them the support they needed. And the happiest part of this throwback? All three were eventually released.
