Widow's tax disaster fuels fresh attack on Labor's policy failures

Sky News host Jaimee Rogers criticises the Albanese government for repeatedly announcing major policies before working through the consequences, arguing Australians are paying the price for policy-on-the-run. “Australia has become a country governed by trial and error. Policies are announced first. Questions get answered later,” Ms Rogers said. “After weeks of insisting the policy was right, the government is doing backflips this week. It was around the widow’s tax where negative gearing wouldn't be grandfathered if a couple divorced or a partner died. “What happens to the family whose circumstances change before the government gets around to fixing this policy? Governments aren't supposed to announce legislation and then work out the details afterwards. They're supposed to do the hard work first. “Australians deserve better than governing by correction. This is why people are walking away from the major parties.”

Moldovan PM resigns, triggering automatic dismissal of gov't

Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation on Friday, automatically triggering the dismissal of the entire government under the country's constitution, the official Moldpres news agency reported, said Xinhua. In a social media post, Munteanu said he believed he could help improve the country's situation when he accepted the position in November 2025. However, he decided to resign upon realizing that he could no longer perform his duties in accordance with his principles and beliefs. Following Munteanu's announcement, Moldovan President Maia Sandu launched consultations with parliamentary factions to designate a new candidate for prime minister in accordance with legal provisions. Moldova's supreme law stipulates that following the prime minister's resignation, the executive branch shall perform only the functions of administering public affairs until the members of a new government are sworn in. The prime minister-designate must, within 15 days of being designated, seek a parliamentary vote of confidence for the government's program and proposed cabinet.
