US strikes target Iranian infrastructure
The US military continued its strikes on Iran on July 8-9, after breaking the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries and causing heavy damage to key Iranian infrastructure. A strategic railway bridge on the China-Iran rail corridor in Golestan province was heavily damaged. Strikes also hit Iranshahr airport, killing a firefighter, and targeted a maritime control tower in the port city of Chabahar. Smoke was seen rising from an Iranian port in Hormozgan province following the attacks. The strikes came hours after US President Donald Trump said the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran to end the war was “over” after US strikes on the country on the night of July 7, and that the US would “probably” hit Iran again on the night of July 8.
