Representatives from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the US Army’s Central Command are to sit together — where else? — in Qatar: “One of the things we wanted to come out with [was a] channel on the Iranian side [for reducing conflict], which we did,” Vance said in an

‘Magic Mike’ Star Reveals Brutal Side-Effects of Secret Health Battle
Ethan Miller / Getty ImagesActor Joe Manganiello has revealed the horrendous side effects he suffered during a secret seven-year battle with autoimmune disease. In his upcoming memoir Bloodlines, the Magic Mike star details his private health struggle and an unconventional path to recovery that included “shamans, pagan rituals, ancient myths, long lost family records, and the rebirth of his own spirituality.” In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Manganiello said early treatments worsened his condition. “I saw the best doctors in the world,” Manganiello said, adding that none could identify the cause. “All their attempts to treat it with high-powered biological drugs only exacerbated my symptoms and then unlocked a host of brutal side effects that winded up plaguing me for years,” he said. As his illness progressed, he underwent invasive procedures. “And then in attempts to buy myself time,” he continued, “I underwent very serious operations and procedures that mutilated parts of my body and left me so weak at times that I couldn’t stand up or walk.” He also spent months “heavily medicated while dealing with excruciating bouts of chronic pain.” He added, “If you’re out there and you’re suffering, there’s hope.”Read it at Page SixRead more at The Daily Beast.

Madonna Reveals How 'Falling Out' With Studio Got Her Upcoming Biopic With Julia Garner Scrapped
Not all projects are meant to work out, but it's a terrible feeling when they fail because of something like a budget. While talking with Interview magazine, Madonna opened up about how her biopic, which she'd already spent the past two years writing and developing, and Ozark's Julia Garner was rumored to portray her, was canceled for budgetary reasons.Madonna reflected:“I was supposed to make a movie about my life. I worked on my script for two years and spent two years at Universal Studios with the line producers doing budgeting and casting. We had a falling out, me and Universal, regarding budget because I needed... I’ve had an extraordinary life. I’ve had a huge life, so I needed a big budget. You know what I mean?[I tried to find] a way to make it for less money in Serbia. Maybe they just didn’t believe in me.One of their first reactions was, ‘We don’t believe you’d stay in Serbia more than four days.’ And I said, ‘Did you read the script?’ My whole life has been survival. I’m not going there for a holiday. But anyway, I was in limbo when that fell apart, and then Netflix reached out to make a series. That was a whole other long process, because I couldn’t use the script I had with Universal unless I bought it from them for an extortionist’s price, even though I wrote it. Don’t ask.”Some fans were glad that Madonna knew her worth and didn't settle for less. But knowing that Madonna is worth 850 million dollars, others challenged her to fund her vision herself. So far, Madonna has spent two years writing and developing her story with Universal Studios, and then she attempted to work out the project as a series with Netflix. There's no telling if she'll decide to purchase the rights to the script that she wrote with Universal to move forward with the series with Netflix. Perhaps there's even another path that she could take. But knowing Madonna, she'll find a way to work through this and get her story told.

Alan Greenspan, Influential Economic Policymaker Whom I Once Terrified At A Party, Is Dead
Alan Greenspan died today. The longtime fed chairman was once hailed as the most powerful man in the world. Greenspan was 100 years old. Back to me: A couple of cool, smart, and nice D.C. friends of mine wrote a book that came out in the summer of 2009, and other cool, smart, and nice D.C. friends threw them a party. Some of the most powerful people in the city, meaning some of the most powerful people in the world, were invited. They also put me on the guest list. The invite said the party would tip off at 6:30 p.m., but I found no dress code, and I'm thinking the hosts know what they're gonna get couture-wise from McKenna, so as usual I just take whatever's risen to the top of the pile in the walk-on closet in my bedroom and throw it on. I show up an hour late at a beautiful house in the tony Kalorama neighborhood, and when I walk inside I hear all the noise coming from the backyard, which has an entrance to the side of the front door, and I look out the windows and see everybody looking fancy as hell and face the fact I fucked up, fashion-wise. Plus it’s D.C. hot outside and my car air conditioning had been broken for years, so I’m sweating like Marion Barry and the AC inside the house feels real boss. So instead of immediately going out back, I keep walking past that backyard entrance and toward the kitchen to see if there's anybody lagging in the house who I can bother while I decompress and let my pores close, but I quickly determine that everybody's outside and I better join the party before I'm caught wandering the halls.

The Maya City Disappeared~The Jaguars Didn’t 🐆
🐆 𝐀 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞… 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭. 🌿Deep in the jungles of southern Mexico, archaeologists just found a city no one had seen in over a thousand years. They named it Minanbé — Maya for "there is no path." To reach it, they cut five kilometers through forest so dense it had hidden an entire city, with temples, plazas, and carved monuments, completely intact. No looting. Untouched. 🛕 But here's what moves me. That same forest — Calakmul — is the last great stronghold of the jaguar in Mexico. Around five hundred of them still walk there, through the second-largest rainforest in the Americas. 🌎 🐾 Five of Mexico's six wild cat species still hunt these ruins. The Maya worshipped the jaguar as a god — a spirit that walked between worlds. Their kings are dust now. Their cities fell silent. But the jaguar? The jaguar endured. In a way, the wild cats have carried the Maya forward in their spirits. 🐆 🌳 The forest that protected this city for a thousand years is being cleared right now. So protect the habitat, and you protect them both — the ancient and the living. That's why the Big Cat Public Safety Act matters, and why every nation should pass one like it. 💚 I'm Carole Baskin. Let's keep the wild cat wild. 🐾 https://bigcatrescue.org/conservation-news/when-the-jungle-keeps-a-secret #BigCatRescue #Conservation #Jaguar #Wildlife #WildCats #Mexico #SavingWildlife #SaveThePlanet

Labor blasted as plunging house prices leave first-home buyers exposed
Sky News host Chris Kenny accuses Labor of wrecking the housing market, warning falling home prices, higher interest rates and broken promises have left many first-home buyers at risk of negative equity. “Labor come in promising to give people more stuff, they wreck the budget and the economy, and then the Coalition has to come in and clean up the fiscal and economic mess,” Mr Kenny said. “They've helped first home buyers get into the market with just a five per cent deposit by getting the government to guarantee the loans. “That was last year, and since then the government has continued with its broken promises on negative gearing and capital gains tax and insisted it will not drive house prices down. “Fast forward to today and with the government failing to control its spending, failing to control inflation, and seeing interest rates go up again, at the same time it's increased taxes on housing investment. “Well, prices have dropped, of course, right around the country, in every state; prices have fallen; your house is worth less. “With markets falling, people on this scheme might already be in negative equity. “This is a deep worry. Especially when the sustainable way to make houses more affordable, that is increasing supply, the trend is all wrong too. New building approvals have fallen for the third month in a row. Experts are worried.”

Vulkan-netbsd brings Vulkan to NetBSD
NetBSD is the only BSD without a Vulkan stack (Mesa and Lavapipe), but that’s about to change. The effort to bring Vulkan to NetBSD is now in beta, with prebuilt binaries coming soon. Mesa configures, compiles, links, installs, and registers the Lavapipe software Vulkan driver on NetBSD 10.1 amd64, against LLVM 19.1.7. The driver (libvulkan_lvp.so, ~17 MB) installs into /usr/pkg/lib, and its ICD manifest (advertising Vulkan API 1.4) installs into /usr/pkg/share/vulkan/icd.d/, so a Vulkan loader on the system can discover it. ldd resolves every dependency cleanly. The entire process — environment setup, dependency builds, the Mesa build, and installation — is automated end to end and reproducible on a fresh install. vulkan-netbsd GitHub page It’s important to note that the next step in the process is to port the Vulkan loader, which is required to actually run Vulkan applications. This entire effort is still ongoing and seems to be handled mostly by Dean Howell alone, so expect breakage and incomplete documentation as development progresses. Still, this is a hugely important effort, and seeing it this far along is great news.
