10 killed in S. Philippine landslide

Ten people died after a landslide buried two families in a village in Sarangani province, the southern Philippines' Mindanao, early Friday morning, local disaster risk reduction and management office said, reported Xinhua. The accident occurred following continuous heavy rainfall and the intensified southwest monsoon, which triggered the soil collapse. According to local authorities, the ground had been weakened by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the area on June 8, as well as days of continuous rainfall. A man was rescued from the debris on Friday morning and rushed to a hospital, while at least 115 families were evacuated. Search and rescue efforts are underway to ensure that no additional victims remain trapped beneath the collapsed earth and debris.
