Music producer freed of rape charges

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 40-year-old music producer has been found not guilty of rape in connection with allegations dating back to 2020.The accused, Eli Goodall, was acquitted after the trial judge upheld a no-case submission made by his attorneys, King’s Counsel Peter Champagnie and Patrice Riley. The attorneys argued that the complainant was not a witness of truth based on the evidence elicited during cross-examination, in which it was unearthed that the complainant provided information to the court that was not consistent with her report to the police. The young woman asserted that after being viciously raped by the accused, she accepted food offered by him. When pressed further, she also admitted that within 15 minutes of leaving the accused man’s room, where she claimed to have been raped, she sent him a message on his phone asking him about a lighter she had left in his room with a request for him to take it to her room. The young woman could not offer any explanation for the various inconsistencies. She also admitted under cross-examination that whilst her friends were on the premises where the rape was said to have been committed, she did not tell any of them because she did not want any harm to come to the accused.Goodall had maintained that he did not rape her, and they had a sexual relationship, which had been discovered by her boyfriend. The matter was heard for five days in the Supreme Court.

Movie MAGA Tried to Cancel Scores Astonishing Rave Reviews

Melinda Sue Gordon/Universal Pic / Courtesy Universal PicturesChristopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey is being lauded by critics, despite MAGA’s attempts to condemn the film before it was even made public. Variety called it “an astonishing achievement,” adding that the performances from the star-studded cast were “genuinely grand.” The Independent said, “In The Odyssey, Nolan showcases visual trickery in a way you’ve never seen a few before.” Time Out’s film critic declared the film is a “dizzying mix of craft and spectacle that’s built to last,” and described it as “dense but accessible, packed with career-best work from the stacked cast.” IndieWire’s editor-at-large predicted Best Actor award nominations for Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus. Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes movie critic Erik Davis deemed the 3-hour spectacle an “absolute triumph” and crowned Oscar winner Nolan “one of the great filmmakers of our time.”Read more at The Daily Beast.

Family of victim issues statement after teen rapists handed four years detention: ‘Justice has finally been done’

The family of one of the victims of two teenage rapists has issued a statement after the pair had their “unduly lenient” sentences overturned. Dr Charlotte Proudman, the barrister for one of the girls referred to in court as C1, read the words outside the Courts of Justice on their behalf. Two 15-year-old boys, referred to in court as X and Y, now face four years' detention for the rape of two girls in Fordingbridge in Hampshire. They had initially been spared jail, which the Court of Appeals judged to be “unduly lenient”. “We welcome the judgment of the Court of Appeal and the fact that justice has finally been done for more than 18 months,” Dr Proudman read. “Our family and those closest to us have lived through a nightmare, a nightmare that no family should ever have to endure the emotional toll has been immeasurable.”The barrister said the case could provide the impetus to make changes in the justice system. “One case cannot change a system... but the opportunity this case makes to put victims at the centre of the system cannot be wasted. C1 is a hero,” she said.WATCH THE FULL CLIP ABOVE Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter

‘Braver Angels really helped me to see the humanity in people from the other side’: One high schooler’s journey to better political conversations

Written Gabriella Kearns, Senior Fellow for Civic Storytelling and originally published on Braverangels.org (Mixed bias).Mia Dougherty has always been interested in politics.nbsp;“From the very beginning I wanted to talk about issues. Even when I was in first grade, I remember I did this announcement on the intercom about why people should save the environment and be vegetarian,” she said. “Which is hilarious, because I’m not even vegetarian now.”nbsp;Clearly open to changing her mind, Mia was ahead of the curve when it came to having productive political conversations. There was just one problem: “Kids my age didn’t really want to have the depth of discussion I always wanted to have,” she said. So, when she was just ten years old, her mom enrolled her in Braver Lens, a Braver Angels program that explored the political divide through photography. Here, she was talking to people she never could’ve imagined.“When we met, they showed their pictures, and explained their life stories, and
