USF donates $4.2m in computer devices to the Manchester Municipal Corporation

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Furthering its mission of transforming Jamaica’s digital landscape, the Universal Service Fund (USF) has donated approximately 4.2 million worth of computer devices to the Manchester Municipal Corporation.According to USF, this forms part of a continued effort to strengthen digital transformation and improve operational efficiency within local government institutions.The handover ceremony, which took place on Thursday, May 28, saw the municipal corporation receiving 12 desktop computers and three laptops intended to modernise its technological resources and enhance service delivery to residents of the parish.Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the USF, Charlton McFarlane, underscored the importance of equipping public institutions with the technological tools needed to function effectively in an increasingly digital society.“The value of what we are handing over will go a long way in increasing the efficiency of the corporation,” said McFarlane while underscoring that the USF remains committed to supporting institutions that directly impact the lives of Jamaicans and ensuring they are properly equipped to serve the public.At the same time, USF Marketing and Public Relations Manager Dana DeCordova Denton emphasised the broader importance of digital access and technological advancement within government entities.“Technology is vital. We understand that technology is no longer a luxury; it is an essential tool for efficiency, communication, innovation, and service delivery. Government entities play a critical role in the daily lives of our citizens, and it is therefore important that they are equipped with the resources necessary to effectively serve the public in an increasingly digital world,” DeCordova Denton said.While delivering the keynote address, the Mayor of Mandeville and Chairman of the Manchester Municipal Corporation, Donovan Mitchell, expressed appreciation to the USF for the significant contribution and highlighted the impact the devices will have.“All departments will get at least one device to use,” Mitchell shared, while assuring staff that the equipment would help bolster the effectiveness and productivity of the corporation.
