WATCH: Six charged in Mandeville highway vending clampdown

MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Police are reporting that six vendors were arrested and charged with breaches of the Towns and Communities Act, and five others were warned, following a clampdown on vending along the Winston Jones Highway in Mandeville on Thursday.Police said the enforcement forms part of efforts to restore public order in Mandeville and its environs.Police said the street vending activities were becoming widespread and impeding the flow of traffic in the vicinity of the Williamsfield and New Green roundabouts.“We are trying to alleviate the problem, because some of these vendors have been walking onto the Winston Jones Highway in front of moving traffic,” said a senior police source.Police are urging vendors to utilise the Mandeville Market to sell their goods and follow health and safety regulations.Thursday’s operation was done by the Manchester Municipal police, the Area Three Agricultural Protection Branch and the Manchester police.— Kasey Williams
