A few months after rah-rah, blah-blah Top Gun had been largely ignored by my fellow left-leaning students, we were all finally going to be shown what it meant to be in the shit, as Max Fischer would say with awe to Vietnam vet Herman Blume in Rushmore. I didn't see Top Gun until years later, and I hated Platoon.
