Two men were injured in a fall in a shaft in Marsaskala on Tuesday, the police said Wednesday.Police said were called to assist at an apartment block on Triq l-Aħmar, Marsaskala, yesterday afternoon at approximately 2.30p.m.Preliminary investigations revealed that two Syrian men, aged 26 and 18, were working in a shaft when they fell.Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. Both men were subsequently transported to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where they were certified to have sustained grievous injuries.Police investigations, as well as those by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority, are ongoing.

A young man was rescued at St Peter's Pool in Delimara on Monday evening after requiring medical assistance, with Civil Protection Department rescue swimmers transporting the man to shore before being taken to Mater Dei Hospital, the department said.In a Facebook statement, the Civil Protection Department said rescue teams from Fire Stations 1 and 5 responded to the emergency at St Peter's Pool after an individual required medical assistance.Upon arrival, two CPD rescue swimmers assisted the youth from the shore to the department's RHIB Delta 2 using an inflatable stretcher, the statement said.The man was then transported to St Thomas Bay, Marsascala, where an ambulance was waiting before being admitted to Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment.The Civil Protection Department thanked the Malta Police Force and the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital for their assistance and cooperation.
