Iranian clerics call for assassination of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu

Sky News Defence Analyst Peter Jennings reacts to Iran’s most senior clerics calling for the assassination of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “What you have in Iran is a kind of split between the extremists in charge and an even more extreme bunch of clerics who want to continue the fight,” Mr Jennings told Sky News host Jaimee Rogers. “I think an enormous problem on the desk of the President is do we start military conflict again, or do we now live with, bizarrely, a stronger Iran? “It’s not a good outcome for the United States.”

Quote of the day

I headlined my post on St. Paul Academy alumnus Tim Sheey’s appearance on Fox News with Brian Kilmeade “Senator Sheehy explains.” The Wall Street Journal headlines its editorial on the same segment “Tim Sheehy explains Iran.” The Journal’s editors write: The Trump Administration is working overtime to sell its deal with Iran and assail anyone who questions sanctions relief for the regime that has massacred thousands of its own people.

Netanyahu Squirms Over Awkward Trump Question

Fox NewsIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was confronted about his tense relationship with Donald Trump amid the conflicts in the Middle East.In an interview on Fox Friends on Monday morning, Netanyahu gave a less-than-convincing reply when he was asked by host Brian Kilmeade if his relationship with Trump was “under strain” as Israel’s attacks on Lebanon threaten hopes of ending the war with Iran.“Well, first of all, we see eye to eye on just about everything. And sometimes—this happens among the best of allies, and we are the best of allies—there can be differences of opinion,” Netanyahu said.Read more at The Daily Beast.

Iran’s Ghalibaf calls US deal an ‘American declaration of defeat’

Iran’s Ghalibaf calls US deal an ‘American declaration of defeat’ Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has described the agreement reached with the United States to end the regional war as an “American declaration of defeat”. Speaking at a conference in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, on Wednesday, Ghalibaf said the Islamabad understanding, finalised through Pakistani mediation, was not achieved through “pressure and coercion”, but through the “resistance and authority” of the Iranian people. Ghalibaf, who also serves as Iran’s parliament speaker, said Tehran viewed the withdrawal of foreign military forces from the Middle East as a strategic objective, arguing that their presence was a source of instability rather than lasting security. “We see the future of the region not in confrontation but in interaction, and not in elimination but in coexistence,” he said, in an apparent overture to Gulf states targeted by Iranian strikes during the war. Ghalibaf also reiterated that ending the war in Lebanon was a central condition for reaching a final agreement with Washington. “For us, the ceasefire in Lebanon has been and remains as important as the ceasefire in Iran,” he said.
