Arab League calls for comprehensive US-Iran agreement to enhance regional security

AMMAN — Arab Foreign ministers welcomed the agreement between Iran and the United States. They emphasized the importance of reducing tensions and creating conditions conducive to a comprehensive agreement that would enhance security and stability across the region. Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan attended the 165th ordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level, held in the Jordanian capital Amman on Monday. The meeting reviewed progress in joint Arab action as well as ways to strengthen the Arab League system and develop its mechanisms to fulfill the aspirations of member states. The meeting, chaired by Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdullatif Alzayani, formally announced the council’s approval of the appointment of Nabil Fahmy as the new secretary general of the Arab League, under a mandate from Arab leaders, effective from the beginning of July. Al Zayani, speaking on behalf of the council’s member states, wished Fahmy success in leading the organization, advancing joint Arab action, and serving Arab causes.
