'They are fed up': Nicolle Wallace details enthusiasm collapse befalling the GOP
Narrative Analysis: Name Calling

New data from The Washington Post is painting a dire electoral picture for Republicans heading into the 2026 midterms, and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore told MS NOW's Nicolle Wallace on Monday that Democrats aren't just riding a wave; they're building one.The Post's analysis of more than 990 House primary races across 25 states found that 12.6 million ballots were cast in Democratic primaries so far this year, compared to just 8.6 million in Republican contests. In 2022, when Republicans flipped the House, the enthusiasm advantage ran the other way.In more than 90 of Democratic House primaries held this year, voter turnout exceeded 2022 levels, a benchmark that analysts say is unlike anything since the 2006 blue wave that ended the Bush era.New data collected by the Washington Post highlights a major enthusiasm gap between the two political parties. And if early voting turnout data is an indicator, it reiterates the feeling that Americans nationwide have had enough. They are fed up with what they're seeing from Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans, Wallace told viewers. The Post found that Democrats received a majority of votes in primaries for three of the five Texas congressional districts redrawn specifically to benefit Republicans. In California, where voters approved a new map designed to net Democrats five seats, the gains are holding firm, with Democratic primary shares exceeding 2022 levels in each of the five new blue-leaning districts.Moore told Wallace his state's legislature is preparing to redraw its congressional maps in a special session after the primary in response to what he called Republican efforts to rig the midterms through mid-decade redistricting. The Maryland House of Delegates has already passed new maps, and the Senate is now moving forward.I refuse to be punched in the face while I'm sitting on my hands, Moore said. The enthusiasm gap has alarmed Republicans for months. Raw Story previously reported that only 50 of GOP voters describe themselves as extremely motivated to vote in November compared to 66 of Democrats — a deficit that Trump's own pollster has warned could cost Republicans both chambers.

Major upsets: 15-term Dem loses CO election to Dem Socialist
Democratic socialists struck another blow against the Democratic establishment on Tuesday in Colorado, where CNN’s Decision Desk projects that 29-year-old Melat Kiros will defeat incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette, who was first elected before Kiros was born, in a primary. Kiros was the third progressive challenger to defeat a sitting House member in eight days, after two more won last week in New York. CNN’s Audie Cornish discusses the ramifications of the Democratic Party’s recent progressive insurgency with her “group chat.” Also, CNN senior political analyst Mark Preston says the trend is “certainly not a one off.” 0:00 The “stunning losses” for Democratic establishment candidates in Colorado 0:41 Democratic socialist speaks out after upset victory over 15-term incumbent 1:45 How are progressive candidates doing things differently? 3:57 Colorado voters on why they voted for change 8:38 Is the progressive surge a national trend? Marjorie Taylor Greene joins Tucker Carlson in ditching the GOP
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced Monday evening that she's ditching the Republican Party, following conservative commentator Tucker Carlson out the door. Why it matters: The former Trump loyalist is part of a growing group of conservatives who believe the president's foreign policy has gone astray. What they're saying: Tucker is not the only one who is done supporting the Republican Party, Taylor Greene wrote in a post on X Monday. There is A LOT of us that are absolutely fed up and will not support a party that betrays its voters and country. That does not mean we are turning into Democrats either. But we are DONE with the America LAST Republican Party, she said. Catch up quick: Carlson said during a podcast interview that gained traction on Monday that he's out of the GOP after vocally defending it for 35 years. And if I'm out, then I think a lot of other people are out, he said, adding that Trump's foreign policy in the Middle East doesn't serve America's interests. Greene, who resigned from Congress in November, told Axios last year that she wouldn't become an independent, despite being frustrated with both Democrats and the GOP. Setting A Thermostat Is Not Communism, Fox News
Fox News and the entire GOP is so terrified of Mayor Zohran Mamdani's success that they are mocking him for asking New Yorkers to be careful with their thermostats during an extreme heat wave. This is the same advice Trump's Energy Department has suggested as well. Not only do they look foolish, but they appear desperate in their efforts to smear and ridicule a popular political rival. This morning on Fox and Friends, the three co-hosts were beside themselves that the mayor of New York City would ask residents to turn the thermostat higher to conserve energy so that there aren't any blackouts during this massive heat wave. And somehow, like morons trying to pick up a bowling ball with tweezers, they related it to communism. (NARRATOR: They've got no clue what it is. Just a scare word to them) After bragging about Trump giving a speech in 107 degree weather, they transitioned into this. KILMEADE: Mamdani weighed in on the heat record.... EARHARDT: Oh, my Gosh! JONES: Unbelievable. EARHARDT: We've had blackouts here in New York and I've lived through one of those where the power goes out because the grid can't handle it all. read more
