Riots at a Sri Lankan prison have left up to 26 dead, seven guards, and over 100 injured following clashes between two groups of inmates. The riot occurred at Negombo Prison in the town of Colombo and lasted two days after an inmate reportedly informed about a drug trafficking racket inside. According to the BBC, the riot started after two inmates grabbed guards' guns, with two people killed and several injured that day. Following the shooting, prisoners from the male and female adjoining units jumped on the prison's roof and demanded their release.
