Ruling party debate over prosecutors' powers deepens
Narrative Analysis: Name Calling

The debate has deepened within the ruling party over whether to completely remove prosecutors' supervision of police in its handling of criminal cases, a key agenda item ahead of the convention to elect a new party leader. Some lawmakers have expressed concerns that the party's ongoing legislative push could leave the police unchecked and invite corruption. But others said the party should continue to push for the prosecutorial reform plan regardless of the potential negative effects of the legi

Inside the ‘Broadview Six’ scandal rocking Chicago’s federal courthouse – Chicago Sun-Times
Federal prosecutors in Chicago are better known for taking on violent street gangs, potential terrorists and corrupt politicians of all stripes. In 20 years, they put two governors in prison, as well as a former U.S. House speaker who served two heartbeats away from the presidency. But the “Broadview Six” scandal is now threatening to do long-term damage to what’s perhaps the most highly regarded law enforcement agency in the city. A federal judge summed it up this way: “Trust has been broken.”

Roberts Court Expands Trump's Power And Kneecaps Congress
The corrupt MAGA Roberts Court mostly ruled against Donald Trump today, rejecting his appeal in the E Jean Carroll case, protecting mail-in voting and blocked Trump from firing Lisa Cook. BUT, they did give him a big win that is going to be highly consequential. He is now able to fire independent regulators, a power that no other President has ever had. The case was brought by Federal Trade Commission Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter after he fired her shortly after he began his second term. No other President has tried to exert such power over independent regulators - it would have been unheard of. Trump tried it and the Supreme Court has decided that he can do it - and I guess all future Presidents can as well. (Ed. note: You know they'll find a way to prevent a Dem president from doing that) In the 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court gave Trump and all future presidents the power to remove members of supposedly independent federal agencies that carry out functions under the executive branch of government. All 6 conservative justices ruled in Trump's favor, of course. read more

Former prosecutor unnerved by Justice John Roberts
Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann expressed deep concern about the Supreme Court's 6-3 decision in Trump v. Slaughter, which overturned 91 years of precedent allowing presidents to fire independent agency members without cause. Weissmann highlighted Chief Justice Roberts' use of the word secrecy when describing executive branch vitality, calling the language chilling. He argued the ruling extends Roberts' expansive presidential power theory from the Trump v. United States immunity case. Weissmann warned the decision unleashes political patronage and deemed it a very ahistoric decision with significant long-term consequences. He cautioned against allowing presidents to replace career officials based on party affiliation, invoking Justice Robert Jackson's warnings from his Nazi prosecution work at Nuremberg. You do not want a Republican president to come in and fire every Democrat, and you do not want every Democratic president to come in and fire every Republican, he said. Weissmann also criticized the court's originalism claims as laughable, pointing to its simultaneous decision protecting the Federal Reserve as evidence of result-oriented judging.Watch the video below.
