Trump’s Nasty Boy

We knew that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had threatened Bill Pulte, saying he was going to kick his ass. So I guess we should have realized that for all his bespectacled, mild-mannered looks, he’s got a nasty streak a mile wide. Still, it’s surprising to read this: “Several Trump aides had been worried” about the potential for a blow-up when Zelenskyy came to the White House, ostensibly to seal a minerals deal drafted by Bessent, Swan and Haberman write. Then-national security adviser Mike Waltz “tried – unsuccessfully – to get the message across that Zelenskyy should come wearing a suit”, they continue. “Bessent had strongly recommended to Trump that he not even allow Zelenskyy into the White House before he had signed” the deal. “‘I’ve dealt with this little fucker,’ Bessent would say to associates about Zelenskyy,” according to the book. “‘He’s tricky. He’s like the special-needs child for the Europeans. And he’s acting like Mr Bean on crack.” He is one nasty piece of work, isn’t he? In fact, in an administration full of roaring assholes, it turns out he’s one of the worst. Never judge a book by its cover. After all, this is the guy who ran the Nazi SS:

Canada condemns alleged Iranian attacks on Bahrain

Canada condemns alleged Iranian attacks on Bahrain Canadian foreign minister Anita Anand said the alleged Iranian drone attacks on Bahrain amount to “unlawful violations” of the Gulf country’s sovereignty. In a social media post, Anand said she spoke with her Bahraini counterpart “to reaffirm Canada’s solidarity with the people of Bahrain”. “Canada continues to call for a durable solution that advances peace and security in the region,” Anand added. The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs had on Saturday issued a statement condemning in the strongest terms Iran’s alleged drone attacks against Bahrain following US strikes on Iran. The ministry said that the attacks constitute a “flagrant violation” of Bahrain’s sovereignty and “a threat to its security and stability”. Both the Qatari foreign ministry and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also strongly condemned Iran’s attacks on Bahrain. In a statement to X, Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed al-Budaiwi said he “condemns in the strongest terms the treacherous Iranian attacks on the Kingdom of Bahrain and its targeting of civilian infrastructure and properties”. Qatar called for “continuing on the path of dialogue and diplomacy, de-escalation, and building on the gains achieved within the framework of the memorandum of understanding, in a manner that contributes to consolidating security and stability at both the regional and international levels”.

Russia Blows Up Their Own Oil Refinery In Moscow

A massive drone attack by Ukraine on Moscow on Thursday was thought to have caused massive damage to an oil refinery in Moscow. New footage now reveals it was a surface-to-air missile by the Russians themselves that caused the catastrophic damage. Given the small trail and low altitude, it was likely from a MANPADS, portable shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles. Source: New York Post An errant Russian defense missile mistakenly struck a major oil refinery in Moscow on Thursday, sending the site’s massive roof hurtling in the air like a flying saucer, jaw-dropping footage shows. Video captured the Russian surface-to-air missile — meant to take out an overhead Ukrainian drone — miss and fly directly into the refinery’s storage tank, causing a powerful blast that launched the tank’s circular roof into the sky in a mushroom cloud before it crashed to the ground. The refinery, one of Russia’s biggest, had already been battling flames and emitting thick, black smoke from a Ukraine onslaught when the missile hit, according to the clip posted on Telegram by Yan Matveev, a self-exiled Russian military analyst. The facility provides more than a third of the fuel used around the Moscow region and had previously been attacked Tuesday. The video.read more

U.S. launches fresh strikes in retaliation for Iranian attack on tanker

The U.S. military is conducting strikes on Iranian targets in the area of the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for an attack Saturday morning on a commercial tanker, the U.S. military central command said. Why it matters: This is the second wave of U.S. strikes in Iran over the last 24 hours, amid increasing tensions in the strait —which could put the shaky U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding at risk. Driving the news: On Saturday morning the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps launched an attack drone at the M/T Kiku tanker, which was passing in the Strait of Hormuz with more than two million barrels of crude oil, CENTCOM said. The incident happened several hours after the U.S. conducted strikes on Iranian targets in retaliation for another attack on a commercial ship on Thursday. The Iranians retaliated to the first wave of U.S. strikes by attacking targets in Bahrain early Saturday. State of play: CENTCOM said in a statement that U.S. aircraft targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities. What they are saying: Iran was given a chance to honor the ceasefire agreement but elected not to, CENTCOM said. This is a developing story.

On Friday, the day before the Three Lions face Panama in their decisive Group L fixture, it was surely England’s turn to seize centre stage. As various news crews waited at the junction of Broadway and 42nd Street to capture the moment, however, the only visible presence was two blokes holding up a flag of St George with “Seaham Harbour” written on it.“We don’t usually do dances or anything like that,” explained Joe, one of the flag bearers, who hails from Florida via Sunderland and says he works for Nasa in crowd control. “We just like to do arm curls, as we call it, and have a good time.” He mimes the specific curl, it is the kind that moves a glass from bar to mouth.
