Police under inquiry after taser arrest turns fatal | 9 News Australia

A major multi-agency police investigation is underway in South Australia following the death of a 44-year-old man during a violent arrest in the regional town of Clare. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Ward Belt. Emergency services and police officers were initially called to Opie Street in Clare at approximately 12:30 pm yesterday afternoon following urgent reports of a man armed with a metal pole causing significant property damage. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly threatened two responding South Australia Police officers with the weapon. In response, officers deployed a Taser to subdue him. According to official statements, the tactical taser deployment was ineffective. A physical struggle ensued as officers moved in to complete the arrest, during which the 44-year-old suspect suddenly became unresponsive. While first aid and emergency resuscitation were immediately rendered by officers at the scene, the man could not be revived and passed away.
