Manchester police impose curfew in Greenvale after man shot in face
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A 48-hour curfew has been imposed in the troubled Manchester community of Greenvale following Saturday’s shooting of a resident.This despite the efforts of police in implementing social intervention programmes, including a football competition in the area.Operations Officer for Manchester Deputy Superintendent Valdin Amos confirmed that the nightly curfew started at 6:00 pm on Monday and will continue until 6:00 pm on Wednesday and includes Top Greenvale and Lower Greenvale.On Saturday a man who was reportedly sitting in his car was pounced on by an armed assailant and was shot in the face.Police said the man managed to drive himself to hospital, where he has since been admitted for treatment.Police said the shooting happened at a section of Greenvale commonly called Texas.Amos told the Observer that the police will continue to implement social intervention programmes in the community.“Crime has been down in the community. We have a football tournament going on. Parties have been allowed to happen. This incident is the first of its kind in the last two to three years,” said Amos.— Kasey Williams
