Iran says implementation in Lebanon will determine deal's future

Iran says implementation in Lebanon will determine deal's future Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has welcomed the outcome of the latest US-Iran talks in Switzerland, crediting Pakistani and Qatari mediation efforts with helping achieve what he described as major progress towards ending the war in Lebanon. In a post on social media, Araghchi said that oil and petrochemical exports had been exempted from restrictions, the blockade had been lifted, some frozen Iranian assets had been released and a major reconstruction and development programme for Iran had been launched. Despite the reported progress, he cautioned that implementation would be the true measure of success, saying the first real test of the agreement would be the newly established Lebanon deconfliction cell, which is intended to oversee adherence to the cessation of military operations in Lebanon. Tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation has delivered major progress to end Lebanon War. Oil and petrochem exports are waived, blockade lifted, some frozen assets released, and major reconstruction development plan launched for Iran. 1st real test: Lebanon deconfliction cell https://t.co/q0okD2qwSO — Seyed Abbas Araghchi (@araghchi) June 22, 2026

Southern Lebanon tensions rise as residents return to destroyed homes amid fragile ceasefire talks

Residents in southern Lebanon are beginning to return to their villages after months of displacement, only to find widespread destruction following Israeli strikes. Hussein Damash is among those confronting the ruins of his home, reflecting the scale of devastation left behind. While a temporary lull in fighting has allowed some returns, recent attacks and ongoing military presence have reignited fears of renewed escalation. Israel continues to maintain positions in several southern villages, while Lebanese authorities push for a clear withdrawal timetable under a proposed framework being discussed in Washington. The plan, however, is complicated by Israeli demands tied to Hezbollah’s disarmament, a condition the group firmly rejects. Hezbollah has reiterated that any settlement must be based on full Lebanese sovereignty and a complete ceasefire, rejecting direct negotiations and warning against concessions it says would benefit Israel. As diplomatic efforts continue, residents across southern Lebanon remain caught between fragile negotiations and the risk of renewed conflict. Welcome To The Jungle Movie Review: Akshay Kumar leads a star-studded comedy that delivers big laughs and chaos

Bollywood's real khiladi is Akshay Kumar, and he has once again proven it. The superstar has taken on the responsibility of making the audience laugh once more, and he succeeds. Slightly different from comedy films like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala and Welcome, Welcome to the Jungle will keep you laughing from start to finish. The film presents emotion and comedy in a very unique way. Its story and dialogue are what set it apart. In the very first scene of the film, a character says, Welcome, welcome, welcome, meaning welcome three times. This is Welcome 3. For the next 164 minutes, the film's name is repeated again and again so that you do not forget it! Like its title, the film also has substance. Bhojpuri songs, the banter between every character, and scenes filled with patriotism, friendship and enmity will completely capture your mind and heart. The interval is even better than the climax, and it includes a surprise.

2 killed in Israeli drone strike in S. Lebanon despite ceasefire

Two people were killed on Wednesday when an Israeli drone struck an SUV near the southern Lebanese town of Kfar Remmen, reported Xinhua, quoting Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA). The NNA said the drone targeted a BMW X5 vehicle on a road linking Dabsha Hill and the outskirts of Kfar Remmen, killing the two people aboard. Further details about the victims were not immediately available. Separately, an Israeli military patrol accompanied by a D9 bulldozer entered the southern Lebanese village of Ain Arab and ordered residents to evacuate their homes by 5:00 p.m., according to local sources. The patrol reportedly instructed the village chief to inform residents that their homes would be demolished if they failed to comply with the evacuation order. The move came one day after the Lebanese army reopened the road leading to Ain Arab by removing an earth barrier, allowing several residents to return to the village after months of restricted access. Meanwhile, Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of the village of Yater in the Bint Jbeil district, according to the NNA. The incidents occurred despite a ceasefire that took effect on June 19 following U.S.-mediated efforts to halt hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, although violations have continued to be reported by both sides. Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said on Wednesday that the cumulative death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 has risen to 4,211, with 12,173 others wounded.

Podcast: Resist digital hegemony! III

At the UN's Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa warned that artificial intelligence poses the threat of an information Armageddon. Scholars of critical theory perceive that online culture reproduces a cycle of epistemic injustice by fostering organized stupidity that fuels extremism and authoritarianism. And the same technology now implements the grim material application of this degraded intellectual climate, with a UN Human Rights Council study especially accusing Palantir of being part of an economy of genocide through its enabling of Israel's AI-enhanced targeting in Gaza. Meanwhile, the pollution generated by the data centers that power AI is now almost incomprehensible. Despite all this, UNESCO in Geneva glibly called for a safe and inclusive AI that benefits all, and an openly boosteristic AI for Good confab was held alongside the Global Dialogue. The anti-tech rebellion against screens in school classrooms is a significant sign of hope, but the end of reading and death of literacy are already upon us. Moves toward greater regulation of AI are most significant as a catalyst for the conversation that needs to be had: how to launch an effective movement for abolition. In Episode 336 of the CounterVortex podcast, Bill Weinberg continues to make the case. (Image: JSCSR)

Trump ignoring 'open problem' that risks blowing up peace talks — and soon: expert

U.S. and Iranian officials met in Switzerland Sunday ahead of negotiations to solidify the tentative peace deal between Washington and Tehran and bring about an end to the U.S. war against Iran, but according to one expert, President Donald Trump and his administration are ignoring a pressing issue that risks blowing up talks before they’ve even started.“I'd be surprised to be that optimistic,” said Richard Haas, former policy director at the State Department, during an appearance Sunday on MS NOW when asked about his thoughts on the likelihood of peace talks succeeding. The pressing issue, Haas warned, was Israel’s ongoing bombardment and occupation of Lebanon, which since March has killed nearly 4,000 Lebanese, wounded close to 12,000 and sparked a humanitarian crisis affecting more than one million people. In the first clause of the tentative peace deal agreed to by Washington and Tehran, a provision explicitly calls for Israel to end its military operations in Lebanon.“What happens if and when Iran demands that Israel vacate Lebanon altogether, that Israel not go back into Lebanon?” Haas said. “That is going to be something of a red line for Israel, and the question is what does the United States do? Do we put pressure on Israel, or do we tell Iran 'no way?' So there's no way you can solve the Lebanon issue once and for all, this has been an open problem for decades and it's going to continue to be one of the many things that's going to really bedevil these negotiations going on.”Trump has tried to pressure Israel to halt – or at least shrink – its military operations in Lebanon, but has been refuted by Israel each time.
