And Now For Something Completely Different
I just need a break from politics. Here’s some news of the strange that doesn’t have anything to do with Donald Trump: After more than three years, Pennsylvania authorities have announced a break in one of the state’s most notable cold cases – the murder of a married couple in a well-to-do suburb of Philadelphia. The slain couple’s daughter, Michelle Zajko, has been charged in the 2022 killing that rattled the small community of Chester Heights, authorities said Wednesday. Zajko, 33, has ties to the so-called Zizians, a cultlike group of highly educated, AI-obsessed vegans, linked to several violent deaths across the United States. She is accused of arranging the murder of her parents, Richard and Rita Zajko, on the morning of her 30th birthday, after receiving a text message from her mother seeking to mend their broken relationship. “It was an exhaustive investigation, and it took years to pull together, but we are finally at the point where we can say beyond any doubt that Michelle Zajko was at least in part responsible for the death of her parents,” Delaware County District Attorney Tanner Rouse said at a news conference. Rouse added that investigators are still working to identify a second person captured on surveillance footage entering the Zajkos’ home ahead of the murder on Dec. 31, 2022. “She did not act alone,” Rouse said, referring to Zajko. “At this time, we don’t know who her co-conspirators were.” Everything started to come together when two other people were involved in a shooting

Gozitans deserve modern and permanent connectivity, not more temporary fixes - PN
Gozitans have long been waiting for a permanent, modern and reliable solution to their connectivity with Malta, and they cannot continue being offered temporary fixes and patchwork measures instead of a long-term vision, the Nationalist Party said Friday. The call for tenders issued by the Government for the lease of a fourth Gozo Channel vessel, while recognising the need for greater capacity, also confirms that after 13 years in government, Labour still does not have a permanent plan to address one of Gozo's most crucial challenges, the PN said.Thegovernment must explain whether the conditions of this call will attract genuine competition, how much this lease will cost the Maltese and Gozitan people, and, above all, what concrete plan it has to permanently modernise the Gozo Channel fleet. The PN said it has long insisted that Gozo's connectivity is essential national infrastructure and must be given the highest priority. Gozo needs a fourth vessel, but above all it needs long-term investment, serious planning and modern vessels capable of delivering a quality service.Gozo and Gozitans deserve a reliable, permanent and modern service, not a series of temporary arrangements presented as solutions, it added. The Opposition said will continue working to strengthen connectivity between Malta and Gozo through a modern fleet that is adequate for today's and tomorrow's needs, while urging the government to stop dragging its feet on an issue that is so fundamental for Gozitan families and businesses. The statement was signed by Frank Anthony Tabone, shadow minister for Gozo.

Waymo Cars Left Stranded After Battery Issue in Heavy Traffic
Matthew Chattle / Future Publishing via Getty ImagA fleet of Waymo self-driving cars was left stranded in San Francisco after their batteries ran flat while trapped in gridlock following the city’s Fourth of July fireworks celebrations. Videos verified by NBC News showed more than a dozen inactive Waymo vehicles, many of them Jaguar I-PACE SUVs, blocking streets before being towed away. The company blamed the incident on extraordinary congestion caused by road closures, huge crowds, and traffic disruptions after the fireworks display. A Waymo spokesperson added that the company is reviewing how its vehicles can better handle similar situations. One passenger told NBC Bay Area her driverless car continued moving as someone ignited fireworks in the road, while another motorist described frustrated drivers “yelling and screaming at these Waymos because there were no drivers.” Waymo said one vehicle also caught fire after driving over fireworks. No injuries were reported.Read it at NBC NewsRead more at The Daily Beast.

NY Dirt: Real estate recoils at left-wing primary victory
Landlord and homeowner groups are steeling themselves for a new reality in Albany. Candidates equipped with endorsements from the Democratic Socialists of America, Working Families Party, Mayor Zohran Mamdani or all three dominated primary contests across the city, largely without taking direct contributions from real estate-linked donors and PACs. Promising to focus on affordable housing across the board, the left-leaning slate of fresh faces is on a collision course with developer, broker and landlord groups that historically held sway over legislative priorities. “The socialists have made no apologies on their positions when it comes to housing,” Kenny Burgos, CEO of []This article originally appeared on The Real Deal. Grooming gang survivor warns abusers are ‘welcomed back with open arms’ by their communities after ringleader freed
A survivor of Rotherham grooming gangs has warned that perpetrators are “welcomed back in with open arms” in their communities after serving time for their abuse.Sarah Wilson was speaking to GB News as Shabir Ahmed, the ringleader of an infamous Rochdale gang, was freed after serving 14 years of a 19-year sentence for a litany of horrific crimes. Despite being stripped of his British citizenship, Ahmed cannot be deported to Pakistan because of protections in the Immigration Act 1971. “He came over to this country to abuse children. After his sentence, he should be sent home and deported straight away, not given a second chance,” Ms Wilson said. “The grooming gangs are so widespread. They have connections in every town, every city and every single village. No one's safe.”“Their communities don't shun them. They don't isolate them. They're welcomed back in with open arms like nothing's happened... It's not fair on every single survivor,” she said.Ms Wilson told the The People's Channel of her aungish after learning two of her own abusers were set for early release.WATCH THE FULL CLIP ABOVE Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter

The high cost of baby making | The Population Bust
Hungary's Orban government-led pro-natal incentives and South Korea's emerging corporate-driven strategies reveal how states and companies are increasingly intervening to influence personal decisions about having children. In Hungary, an ambitious raft of pro-natal policies have been introduced to counter declining birth rates. Tax exemptions for large families and state-backed, interest-free loans tied to childbearing illustrate the government's push to reshape demographics, but some say the policies only favour a certain segment of society and coerce people into 'traditional' large-family models. The government's pro-natal stance has also led to the introduction of the controversial 'Heartbeat Law', which forces women to listen to the heartbeat of their unborn child before terminating their pregnancies. In South Korea, an even more acute fertility crisis has led to fear of an economic slowdown and prompted the government to encourage major corporations to step in. Companies are now offering IVF funding, expanded childcare, enhanced parental leave and, in some cases, linking promotions to the number of children employees have. There is, however, a section of Korean society that is passionately against such policies, arguing that women are being pressured into having children. #demographics #population #politics #family #fertility #hungary #southkorea #aljazeeraenglish
