Investigation finds no contamination at Salini Bay

The Environmental Health Directorate, in collaboration with the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), has found no contamination of seawater at Salini Bay.Following an immediate site inspection and assessment after social media reports of contamination, it was confirmed that the substance observed entering the sea was not sewage, pollution, or any form of environmental contamination, the directorate said.Investigations established that the discharge consisted of reverse osmosis water originating from a nearby hotel facility. Reverse osmosis is a water treatment process used to purify water, and the discharge observed does not indicate contamination of bathing waters.The Environmental Health Directorate said it continues to monitor Malta's bathing waters through established surveillance and inspection programmes to safeguard public health and environmental quality. At present, there is no evidence of contamination affecting the bathing waters at Salini Bay, and members of the public may continue to enjoy the area with confidence.The authorities understand that videos and images shared online may generate concern.
