Thirty-four years after it became a global hit, Sweat (A La La La La Long) by reggae band Inner Circle, has earned platinum certification in the United Kingdom.On Friday, July 10, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) issued the certification which commemorates digital sales and streaming equivalent exceeding 600,000 units.Sweat (A La La La La Long) was released in July 1992 as the first single from the band’s 12th studio album Bad to the Bone.Written by band members, brothers Ian and Roger Lewis (they share co-production credits with Touter Ivy), the song’s lead vocals were sung by Carlton Coffie.Upon its release, Sweat raced to 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, 3 in the United Kingdom, and made the top ten on national charts in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Norway and Sweden.The song also went to 1 in Belgium, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland and Zimbabwe.Sweat was previously certified gold in Austria, Netherlands, Spain, and in the United States.
