Harry Kane's former PE teacher lifts lid on England captain's path to stardom
Harry Kane's former PE teacher Mark Leadon has heaped praise on the England captain after the team's thrilling victory against Mexico in the World Cup, taking them through to the quarter-final of the tournament.Mr Leadon told GB News: The kind of togetherness that we now see from an England team we didn't get 15, 20 years ago. That game I think yesterday, it's one of the iconic matches for England. I'm thinking back in my time you think about maybe England vs Holland when we won four-one away to Germany, when we won five-one as well, and this one's going to go ranked alongside, isn't it. Just for the drama of it and the pressure and the stress, it was absolutely fantastic. But I think Harry is there, he's leading from the front isn't he? And it's great to think back that we're a little cog in his journey to superstardom.WATCH ABOVE. Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter

England Star Suffers World Cup-Ending Injury While Celebrating Win
Eurasia Sport Images / Getty ImagesA player from England’s World Cup team is out of the tournament after suffering a serious injury while celebrating the country’s win against Mexico. Jordan Henderson, who was a substitute in Sunday’s game, headed behind one of the goals to sing the Oasis hit “Wonderwall” with fans when he fell over an advertising board and landed awkwardly. The team circled around him while the medical personnel rushed to the player, removing him from the field on a stretcher. According to England’s head coach, Thomas Tuchel, Henderson suffered a “quite serious” wrist injury. He did not fly back to the team’s training base with the rest of the players, instead staying in Mexico City that night. As of this morning, The Athletic reports that he will not take further part in the tournament and requires surgery on his wrist. Henderson has played 91 times for England during his 16-year career and currently plays for Brentford in the Premier League. England is set to face Norway in the quarterfinals on July 11 after their 3-2 win over Mexico on Sunday. Read it at PeopleRead more at The Daily Beast.

England midfielder’s experience with Arsenal last season taught him the need to be patient against teams unwilling to attackDeclan Rice is reflecting on the pivotal moment of his season so far, the one when plenty of people thought it was about to go wrong for him and Arsenal. It was a narrow and painful defeat for them at Manchester City in mid‑April, which meant the clubs were stride for stride with each other at the top of the Premier League. The momentum was with City. Were Arsenal about to blow it?The TV cameras picked out Rice on the Etihad Stadium pitch and, as he shook his head, he was easy to lipread. “It’s not done,” the England midfielder said. It was not. Arsenal won all of their remaining league games, finding a way through unbearable levels of tension. City did not and Arsenal were champions for the first time since 2004. “It could have gone either way,” Rice says with a smile. “That would have lived with me for ever.” Continue reading...
