Firgo Diamond talks greed, betrayal in new single ‘Big Shark’

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Rising reggae/dancehall artiste Firgo Diamond is making a bold statement with his new single “Big Shark,” a socially conscious track confronting greed, betrayal, poverty, and the struggles faced by everyday people.Produced by legendary reggae producer Computer Paul and executive produced by Mark “Feedo” Baines, the song blends spiritual reflection with sharp social commentary, delivering a message rooted in truth, survival, and awareness.“The song was inspired by the changes I always notice in people around me,” Firgo Diamond explained. “The moment some people get a better opportunity, they forget where they’re coming from.”While deeply personal, the song also addresses broader social inequality and the realities many inner-city communities continue to face.“Even politicians sometimes have no regard for poor people. At times I feel like we still live on a plantation,” he said.Driven by haunting melodies and emotionally charged lyricism, “Big Shark” carries a spiritual undertone that Firgo Diamond says was inspired directly by divine guidance and lived experiences.“It’s music people can meditate to. It can help youths stay connected to the Almighty despite the difficulties they face,” he shared.According to the artiste, the song emerged unexpectedly during a studio session originally meant for a different recording.“We went there to record another song, but suddenly ‘Big Shark’ came to me,” Firgo recalled. “Paul laid the track and created one of the sweetest bridges I’ve ever heard. He looked at me and said, ‘Firgo, this song will shine for a lifetime.’”The single also received strong encouragement from his manager Margaret Pickersgill, who urged him to fully develop the concept after hearing the early version.Much of Firgo Diamond’s music is shaped by personal hardship, including struggles and legal troubles he experienced while living in America — experiences he says continue to fuel his songwriting and perspective.“I’ve been through a lot and my story still has to be told,” he said. “Sometimes people misunderstand conscious music, but I’ll always speak my truth.”Though currently balancing music with a regular job, Firgo Diamond says his passion for music remains unwavering.“The music is what I crave for,” he declared.“Big Shark” is already receiving airplay on Full Force Radio and SunCity Radio as the artiste continues pushing his message to wider audiences through authentic storytelling and conscious reggae music.“I just want to leave some great music in this world, even a little fraction of what the great Bob Marley left behind,” Firgo Diamond said. “I want to leave inspiration for generations to come.”
