Jalen Brunson Undergoes Wrist Surgery
New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson is having surgery on his left wrist and should resume basketball activities later this summer. Brunson played through the injury throughout New York's championship run and the wrist ultimately required an offseason procedure. The Finals MVP averaged 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals across five games as the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs for their first title in 53 years. Brunson set a franchise record with 45 points in the series-clinching 94-90 victory, contributing 48 percent of New York's scoring output that night. Brunson posted 26 points and 6.8 assists per game during the regular season before elevating his production in the postseason. He became the 13th player since 1984 to average at least 28 points per game for a championship team, finishing at 28.4 points. New York signed Brunson to a four-year, 104 million contract in free agency back in July 2022. Brunson signed a four-year, 156.5 million extension in 2024. Brunson turns 30 on Aug. 31. The Knicks closed the postseason with a 16-3 record, an .842 winning percentage matching the 2024 Boston Celtics for the second-best mark since the NBA adopted best-of-seven series across all rounds in 2003.
