Delta Flight Forced to Divert Over Mystery Cockpit ‘Odor’

Delta Air Lines Flight 337 departed from Orlando and was headed to Detroit Metro Airport but was diverted to Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday after the crew declared an emergency. “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologize for their experience and delay in travel,” Delta said in a statement to CBS News. There were 187 passengers on board, and a spokesperson said they were being accommodated overnight with hotel and meal vouchers, and that the flight to Detroit was scheduled to depart on Friday. The cause of the odor, and what it was, remains unknown. The Thursday incident marks the second such case in recent months, after another Delta flight bound for Seattle made an emergency landing in the Bay Area in April due to a strange smell in the cabin. In December last year, two similar incidents involving unusual odors on the airline were also reported.
