D’Angel ‘s and Beenieman’s son Marco-Dean Davis to co-lead youth summer boxing camp

Marco-Dean Davis, the son of dancehall artistes D'Angel and Beenieman, is stepping into a leadership role this summer as he co-spearheads a three-week boxing camp aimed at equipping young people with skills that extend far beyond the ring. The Marco-Dean Davis and Kamahl Russel Kids Summer Boxing Camp will welcome boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 18 at 77 Shortwood Road, Kingston 8. Participants will receive training focused on fitness, discipline and personal development. The camp runs from July 13 - August 3.According to Davis, the initiative is designed to build strong bodies, confident minds and a brighter future by helping participants develop confidence, self-esteem, coordination, balance, focus, discipline, strength, respect and teamwork. The young boxer brings five years of amateur boxing experience to the programme and believes his own journey makes him well-equipped to mentor others.I was inspired to start boxing because I had weight issues growing up, so boxing definitely helped me lose the weight, gain confidence and maintain a much healthier lifestyle, Davis told the Observer Online. In addition to his boxing background, Davis is also a black belt in taekwondo, a combination he believes has equipped him with valuable life lessons to pass on to the next generation. The ultimate goal for this summer camp is to inspire as many kids as I can and to help build a better mindset through every class taught. I'm also a black belt in taekwondo, so I have a lot of life skills to pass on, he said. While taking on coaching responsibilities, Davis is also preparing for the next chapter of his own journey.I'll definitely be starting my professional music and boxing career while preparing for college, he shared. His mother, D'Angel, said she is proud to see her son helping to guide other young people through a sport that has positively transformed his life. This summer camp is a dynamic, life-changing experience for your children. They will also be trained by the best. My son started boxing five years ago, and I have no regrets. I'm very excited for this journey for the kids. This summer camp is a special edition, and why I say special is because my son Marco-Dean will also be one of the trainers, she said. The camp is expected to combine physical training with character-building exercises, giving participants an opportunity to develop healthy habits while learning discipline and teamwork under experienced instructors. With Davis taking on a mentorship role alongside Kamahl Russel, organisers hope the programme will inspire more young Jamaicans to embrace sport as a pathway to personal growth and self-confidence.
