Israel has launched airstrikes on southern Beirut just days after a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon was announced. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were carried out in response to rocket fire from Hezbollah into northern Israel. Lebanese media reported casualties following the attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs, an area considered a Hezbollah stronghold. The developments raise new questions about the durability of the ceasefire and whether Israel and Hezbollah could be heading toward another broader confrontation. In a separate incident, a gunman killed one person and wounded several others in central Israel. Authorities are investigating whether the shooting was an organized terrorist attack or the act of a lone individual.
