OP-ED: "The City Council Punting on Expansion Absolutely STINKS"
This November, voters in Los Angeles will consider a number of changes to the Los Angeles City Charter. One proposed change that will NOT be up for consideration is an expansion of the City Council from 15 to 25 seats, this, after the Council itself shelved that proposal last week, calling for additional study of the long-debated issue. In his latest Westside Current column, Veteran Political Journalist Jon Regardie says "the city council punting on expansion absolutely stinks." Regardie joins Cher Calvin and Micah Ohlman with more on his column, the growing power of the councilmembers, the arguments for and against expansion, and the greater potential changes to the charter. He also discusses the controversial proposal that WILL be put to voters, whether noncitizen residents of the city can vote in local elections. June 23, 2026. Andy Burnham touted as the ‘great saviour’ poised to lead Labour Party
The Sun’s Deputy Political Editor Ryan Sabey says UK MP Andy Burnham is seen as a “great saviour” of the Labour Party following the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer. “He was the Greater Manchester mayor. It was that bi-election, that area that he fought for, and he won that, but he did win it very comfortably, and he also won it beating main opponents, the Restore Party, the Reform Party as well," Mr Sabey told Sky News Australia. “That is why the Labour MPs see him as perhaps their great saviour. It was Sir Keir Starmer that was failing abysmally when it comes to the polls over recent months, and they see Andy Burnham as part of that answer."

Police Release Man Detained in Murder of Brexit Leader
Jack Taylor / REUTERSPolice have released without charge the man they initially arrested in connection to the murder of 78-year-old former conservative politician and reality TV star, Ann Widdecombe. Widdecombe was found almost 24 hours after a brutal attack in her own home in Devon, southwest of London, on Wednesday. Police say the incident took place around 12:30 p.m., but emergency services were not called to the property until around 11 a.m. the next day. The one-time “Celebrity Big Brother” runner-up and high-profile Brexit advocate served as a member of Parliament for the Conservative Party for over 20 years before retiring in 2010. She then became involved in the Brexit Party and then Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, and was elected to the European Parliament as one of the last English representatives, losing her seat when England exited the EU. When police arrested the Devon man, 26, who they have now released, they said there was no evidence to suggest that Widdecombe’s killing was politically motivated. But the release of the man on Saturday renewed questions about the motive for the murder. Read it at The NY TimesRead more at The Daily Beast.

Some wise counsel to voters eager to make their voices heard in October. Calm down. Remember, the main question is not a yes/no on independence. And the non-binding condition gives Premier Danielle Smith an out if she doesn’t like the answer.
