Tiger Woods Makes First Public Appearance Since DUI Arrest

Kiyoshi Mio/ReutersTiger Woods has returned to the public eye after retreating from the media following his DUI arrest in March. The legendary golfer appeared at a news conference in Cromwell, Connecticut, on Tuesday, set to announce major changes to the PGA Tour’s competitive structure. Woods read from a prepared statement to introduce the Tour’s CEO, Brian Rolapp, before listening to the rest of the event on the sidelines. Woods, who served as chairman of the Future Competition Committee, played a major role in shaping the changes revealed at the TPC River Highlands event. “It’s great to see him back. Tiger’s been involved throughout the process,” Rolapp remarked. The athlete attended this event amid his rehab stay in Switzerland. The 50-year-old fiance of Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife Vanessa announced he would step away from golf in April “to seek treatment” after being arrested on charges of driving under the influence when his Land Rover rolled over in late March near his home in Florida. Although no one was injured in the incident, authorities reported that Woods appeared lethargic, had bloodshot, glassy eyes, and was in possession of opioid painkillers. He entered a not guilty plea to the misdemeanor charges.Read it at ESPNRead more at The Daily Beast.

We Can't Say Who It is, HOWEVER...

The writers do keep coming up with new plotlines. I'll give them that.WASHINGTON — Millions of Americans with obesity are eagerly awaiting a powerful new drug from Eli Lilly called retatrutide, which has demonstrated bariatric-surgery levels of weight loss. Some aren’t even waiting for approval from the Food and Drug Administration, instead racing to acquire it through sketchy means. But STAT has learned that Eli Lilly and the FDA have allowed one person to gain access to the drug through the FDA’s “compassionate use” program, a pathway that gives patients with serious and immediately life-threatening medical issues access to experimental treatments. This person was a 79-year-old man at the time the request was made in April, according to three sources familiar with the matter. Those sources, who requested anonymity due to fear of reprisals, said it drew the interest of top health officials, suggesting the person receiving this drug was well connected.Hopefully this unapproved drug doesn't have any unfortunate side effects, like toxic flatulism, criminal stupidity, or sudden agonizing death syndrome.

A Kaliningrad lawyer who once defended Russians accused of secretly aiding foreign states now faces that same charge, and says she nearly died in jail

A lawyer in Kaliningrad who once represented defendants in politically sensitive cases has become one herself. Maria Bontsler was arrested in late May 2025 on accusations of secretly cooperating with a foreign state — the same kind of charge she once defended others against. She has since been held at Kaliningrad’s SIZO-1 pretrial detention center, where both she and her lawyer say she has come under pressure. Her defense attorney said on June 30, 2026, that Bontsler had nearly died in custody days earlier, the result, he said, of a “mix-up in her prescribed medications.” A court denied the defense’s request to transfer her to a hospital. According to OVD-Info, a human rights monitoring group, Bontsler has been diagnosed with hypertensive heart disease, a condition accompanied by spikes in blood pressure and a high risk of stroke. On Thursday, July 2, Bontsler addressed a court by video link during a hearing on her lawsuit against the Kaliningrad Regional Clinical Hospital and SIZO-1 over her medical treatment and confinement conditions. What follows is her account of her health and daily life in the Kaliningrad detention center.

Saudi Arabia condemns deadly bombing at Damascus café

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia condemned Thursday's bomb attack targeting a café in central Damascus that killed at least 10 people and injured 21 others. In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack, which targeted a café in the Al-Hijaz district of the Syrian capital. The Kingdom reaffirms its solidarity with the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic against all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism, the ministry said, extending its condolences to the families of the victims and to the Syrian government and people, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.According to Syria's Health Ministry, the death toll from the attack rose to 10, with 21 others injured. U.S. launches fresh strikes in retaliation for Iranian attack on tanker

The U.S. military is conducting strikes on Iranian targets in the area of the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for an attack Saturday morning on a commercial tanker, the U.S. military central command said. Why it matters: This is the second wave of U.S. strikes in Iran over the last 24 hours, amid increasing tensions in the strait —which could put the shaky U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding at risk. Driving the news: On Saturday morning the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps launched an attack drone at the M/T Kiku tanker, which was passing in the Strait of Hormuz with more than two million barrels of crude oil, CENTCOM said. The incident happened several hours after the U.S. conducted strikes on Iranian targets in retaliation for another attack on a commercial ship on Thursday. The Iranians retaliated to the first wave of U.S. strikes by attacking targets in Bahrain early Saturday. State of play: CENTCOM said in a statement that U.S. aircraft targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities. What they are saying: Iran was given a chance to honor the ceasefire agreement but elected not to, CENTCOM said. This is a developing story.

What’s Going On With Brandon Aiyuk?

The drama between Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has been brewing for nearly a year. Since suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee during the 2024 season, Aiyuk and his current team have been in a dispute over his rehabilitation. Last year, Aiyuk declined to attend offseason rehab sessions at the team's facility, thus negating parts of his contract. The Niners placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left team list this past December, after he stopped showing up to the facility. Aiyuk, who signed a four-year, 120 million deal before the 2024 season, is coming off a major injury and now has no guaranteed money left on his contract. With his spot on the reserve list, the Niners are in no rush to move him. Still, a breakup has looked inevitable for a while, especially to Aiyuk, who stayed silent on the matter until the June 1 salary cap deadline came and went. For the last couple weeks, the receiver has been posting videos and tweets both taunting the 49ers and teasing a desire to go to the Washington Commanders and reunite with former Arizona State teammate Jayden Daniels. But on Saturday, he released a video in which he explained his side of the situation with the 49ers ... sort of. https://youtu.be/tuHF73RLWv4?si=egyVP2wjKunmS0xQ

Local accounts said the strike killed Al-Wahidi along with two other people, one of them a child, after the vehicle they were traveling in was hit. At the time of the incident, the Egyptian Relief Committee in Gaza was organizing public activities in shelters and displacement areas across the territory so that displaced families could watch the match in a more uplifting environment. Al-Wahidi was described as one of the prominent figures connected to the committee’s work, previously overseeing public relations and media coordination for the committee’s activities, including reconstruction projects and humanitarian and service support to residents. ‘Deport them!’ Tensions flare among ‘irritable’ stragglers ordered to leave Trump’s fair

As thousands of Great American State Fair attendees “wander the streets” of Washington, D.C. in an apparent attempt to wait out severe weather, a tense exchange occurred that involved a man wearing “a patriotic t-shirt” calling for another’s deportation, The New York Times reported Saturday.Fair attendees were ordered Saturday evening to evacuate the National Mall after a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued, an order that initially sparked chaos as several hundred attendees refused to leave. While President Donald Trump has vowed to continue the festivities – even if it means waiting until “2 o’clock in the morning” – attendees may still have hours to wait.“The restaurants in the area, largely fine dining, are packed. People seem exhausted and irritable, and it’s causing some tension,” wrote the Times’ Aishvarya Kavi, reporting from the National Mall.In one tense exchange, Kavi described an incident that sparked one man to call for another’s deportation.“Two men riding electric scooters veered too close to a couple on the sidewalk, [prompting] a short but heated exchange of words,” Kavi wrote. “Behind the couple, a man in a patriotic t-shirt said, ‘Deport them! Deport them!’”The National Weather Service’s Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 10 p.m. ET, close to when Trump was expected to deliver a speech.
