Russia closes border rail crossings amid Baltic tensions | DW News

Putin Faces Humiliating Dilemma as Domestic Crisis Rages

Anastasia Barashkova/Pool via ReutersVladimir Putin has been backed into an embarrassing corner as Ukrainian drones strike deeper and deeper inside Russia. For several weeks, Ukraine has been launching waves of drone attacks into Russia, targeting cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg and the country’s oil refineries, which are vital to funding the Kremlin’s invasion efforts.Until now, Ukraine’s drone strikes had been largely limited to targets within around 1,000 miles of Kyiv-controlled territory. However, on Monday, Ukraine was able to send drones to the Siberian city of Omsk, more than 2,000 miles from Kyiv, targeting Russia’s largest refinery and a crude distillation unit.Read more at The Daily Beast.

Ukraine's drone campaign turning Russia's oil system into new frontline

The escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has taken a highly destructive turn along the frontlines and border zones, shifting the focus of tactical strikes heavily onto retail energy networks. In recent months, Russian forces have initiated a systematic campaign targeting civilian petrol stations within a 30 to 50-kilometer radius of the Ukrainian border. Utilizing a combination of kamikaze drones, heavy artillery, and precision guided missiles, these strikes have left hundreds of local distribution points in ruins across regions like Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv.

Russia claims capture of Kostiantynivka as battle for eastern Ukraine intensifies

Russia says its forces have captured the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka after months of intense fighting. Ukraine has denied the claim, saying the battle for the strategic city is ongoing. Kostiantynivka is considered a key transport hub in Ukraine's Donetsk region. Military analysts say its capture could strengthen Russia's position for further advances toward the Ukrainian-held cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, as fighting continues across eastern Ukraine. Russia Accuses Baltic States of Providing Airspace for Ukrainian Drone Strikes on Russia

Russia warns Baltic states of opening territory for strikes on Russia

The Baltic states are playing with fire by providing their territory for strikes on Russia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said on Tuesday, reported Xinhua. By submitting to NATO and EU discipline and providing their territory for hostile actions against Russia in the context of the Ukrainian conflict, the Baltic states are 'playing with fire.' They know this perfectly well, Galuzin said, cited by RIA Novosti. The day before, Galuzin warned that Latvia's NATO membership would not exempt it from the consequences of its involvement in attacks on Russian territory. Last week, Galuzin said Russia had verified information that Latvia and other Baltic countries had already made their airspace available as transit corridors for Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles conducting attacks against targets within Russian territory. The Baltic states have consistently denied Moscow's accusations.

Russia deploys powerful jammers to disrupt Starlink in war against Ukraine’s drones

Russian forces are trying to counter Ukrainian “mid-strike” drone attacks by camouflaging cargoes and installing powerful jamming systems to disrupt Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet system, Ukrainian drone commanders and pilots have said. Kyiv’s development of “mid-strike” drones that can hit targets dozens of kilometres behind front lines accurately and cheaply, and are often flown via Starlink, has transformed the war in Ukraine. In a concerted mid-strike campaign this year, Ukraine...

Russia says Kostiantynivka has fallen. Kyiv claims it still holds the city. Both are wrong.

In recent days, alongside reports of drone and missile strikes on cities, factories, and gas stations, the state of the front lines has suddenly become a major topic of discussion — apparently because Donald Trump has returned as a mediator in the negotiations. Vladimir Putin told him about the fighting in the ruins of Kostiantynivka, in Ukraine’s Donetsk region — a key city the Russian president claims his army now holds. Ukraine’s General Staff responded that Kostiantynivka remains under the control of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. To back up their claims, both sides released videos of their troops inside the city, some recorded by opposing troops on nearby streets. In reality, neither Moscow nor Kyiv is right: Russian forces haven’t captured Kostiantynivka outright, but Ukraine doesn’t control the city either, though its troops still hold positions there, including in the city center. And while the Kremlin jumped the gun with its announcement, the situation in Kostiantynivka and elsewhere in the Donbas continues to deteriorate slowly for Ukraine’s military.
