Manhattan skyscraper at risk of collapse triggers evacuation

A 37-story tower under construction near Grand Central Terminal faced collapse risk Tuesday morning when firefighters responded to reports of falling bricks from 235 East 42nd Street.The former Pfizer global headquarters is being converted into apartments in what officials call the city's largest office-to-apartment conversion, reported 6 ABC News and The New York Times.Construction workers on the 21st floor discovered two structural support columns buckling and proceeded to self-evacuate. Inspectors confirmed the columns had buckled, with floors between the 21st and 26th sagging. Some reports allege floor collapses. Despite the structural failure, no injuries occurred, and all workers were accounted for. Officials evacuated the building and neighboring properties, including the Hampton Inn Manhattan Grand Central, and closed East 42nd Street between Second and Third avenues. Manhattan Skyscraper Evacuated Over Collapse Fears

FDNYA Midtown Manhattan skyscraper has been evacuated after construction workers discovered structural problems that raised fears of a possible collapse. Crews cleared the 37-story building on East 42nd Street shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday after two support beams on the 21st and 22nd floors began buckling. Officials said floors 21 through 26 showed signs of stress and partial failure. The building, which previously housed pharmaceutical company Pfizer, was emptied as a precaution, with no injuries reported. Eight nearby buildings were also evacuated while emergency crews assessed the situation. Israeli airstrikes hit S. Lebanon as drone flies over Beirut suburbs

Israeli warplanes struck the outskirts of the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon on Sunday, while Israeli forces conducted demolition explosions and artillery shelling in several border areas, according to Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported Xinhua. According to the NNA, Israeli forces carried out a controlled explosion in the town of Al-Tiri and extensive demolition explosions in the towns of Beit Yahoun and Kounine, all in the Bint Jbeil district. Israeli artillery also shelled the vicinity of the town of Qantara. The NNA also reported that an Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade on the town of Al-Mansouri in the Tyre district. No casualties were immediately reported. Israeli drones were also seen flying over villages and towns near Tyre, as well as at low altitude over the city of Baalbek and neighboring villages in eastern Lebanon, according to the NNA. Another drone was reported flying over Beirut and its southern suburbs. No immediate information was available on the extent of the damage. Separately, Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said the cumulative death toll from Israeli attacks since March 2 has risen to 4,304, with 12,203 others wounded.
