WATCH: Pagee flooded after heavy morning rainfall

ST MARY, Jamaica — Sections of the fishing village of Pagee in St Mary were flooded early Thursday morning following hours of consistent rainfall.Resident Sherlon Boota said she woke up to find her yard underwater.“I am kinda alright, but some of my neighbours can’t come out,” Boota said. She added that she fears conditions could worsen if the rain continues.“If the rain continues, many would have to seek shelter elsewhere,” she said.The flooding also disrupted travel along the Islington to Port Maria route.
Taxi operator Albert Johnson told Observer Online that the normal roadway is nearly impassable after the Quebec River overflowed its banks.“We have taken the highway route until it is safe to do so,” Johnson said.In the town of Port Maria, traffic was almost at a standstill as commuters sought shelter and transportation became nonexistent. No injuries have been reported.The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert as showers are expected to continue until Friday.— Ingrid Henry
