Victor Wembanyama has unanimously been named the 2025-26 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the youngest player in league history to win the award at the age of 22. Wembanyama was on his way to winning the award last season before he was ruled out for the season in February due to deep vein thrombosis. Wembanyama is the first player in NBA history to receive all first place votes for Defensive Player of the Year.

Chet Holmgren finished second with 76 second place votes and 11 third place votes ahead of Ausar Thompson with nine second place votes and 33 third place votes. Rudy Gobert and Scottie Barnes rounded out the top-5. Derrick White, Cason Wallace, Amen Thompson, Dyson Daniels, OG Anunoby, Jalen Duren, Draymond Green and Bam Adebayo also received Defensive Player of the Year votes. Wembanyama led the NBA in blocks for the third straight season at 3.1 per game and 197 for the season. The San Antonio Spurs allowed just 103.6 points per 100 possessions with Wembanyama on the floor compared to 113.7 with him off. Wembanyama is also a top-3 finisher for Most Valuable Player. Wembanyama is the fourth member of the Spurs to be named Defensive Player of the Year, joining Alvin Robertson, David Robinson and Kawhi Leonard (2X). Despite his extended period of defensive excellence, Tim Duncan was never named Defensive Player of the Year.
