US Strikes Iranian Military Sites as Iran Hits Back With Air Base Attack Amid Rising Tensions

The United States says it struck Iranian military sites over the weekend, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it responded by targeting a U.S. air base. U.S. Central Command said the strikes on Iran’s Gulf coast were carried out in response to what it described as aggressive Iranian actions, including the shootdown of a U.S. MQ-1 drone operating over international waters. It said U.S. fighter aircraft destroyed Iranian air defences, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that it said posed threats to ships in regional waters. CENTCOM added it will continue to protect U.S. assets and interests during the ongoing ceasefire. In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they targeted an air base used by the United States in retaliation for an attack on southern Iran, though the base was not identified.
