UN chief warns of rising nuclear risks at global nuclear conference

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is "eroding", during the opening of the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Guterres warned the world was slipping into dangerous complacency over nuclear weapons and pointed out alarming trends, including rising nuclear warhead numbers, renewed consideration of nuclear testing, and signals that some countries may pursue nuclear arms.
