If Football Focus were a pet, the BBC has just put this healthy animal to sleep. And for the most scandalous of reasons. A perfectly happy animal, in a little ill health through no fault of its own, but still plenty of years left in it with some care, love and attention The reason the Beeb have killed one of the most iconic sports shows is that they’re petrified of it being a success again.

The BBC would rather put a healthy animal to sleep than confront the truth about its woke capture

Bringing back the 40 per cent of viewers who decided to jump ship and watch something else on a Saturday afternoon?Because just like everything at the BBC, wokeness trumps success. The appointment of Alex Scott and the format change have seen viewers abandon the show in huge numbers. The Beeb will tell you the decline in viewing figures is to do with the digital age and the way we consume our sports news. Baloney-don’t fall for it. If the BBC were to go back to a pre-2021 format, not including social issues or perceived political activism, and actually stick to top-flight footy - and dare I say it - male ex-professional footballers talking about current male professional footballers-then that would prove all along that licence fee payers are sick of on-screen wokeness - whether it’s Footy Focus or any TV or radio show for that matter. And that would be dynamite for those of us who have said all along that wokeness is killing TV enjoyment. And the BBC can’t leave itself exposed like that. So they simply put the healthy animal to sleep. Never to be broadcast again. RIP Football Focus.
