Spring has been ‘trapped’ over North Africa as a bizarre atmospheric pressure pattern grips Britain in a chilly northerly blast.Thermometers through the next week and possibly beyond will plunge below average with a -11C wind chill.A pincer grab of low pressure to the east and high pressure to the west, steered by a looping jet-stream ‘trough’, will raise a battering ram between Britain and warm air simmering over Europe and Africa.Britons hoping for sunshine are warned to brace instead for frosty mornings and snowy hilltops.
