The Strait of Hormuz isn’t fully closed - but it’s far from open. Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has dropped by roughly 95% since the conflict began, falling from over 130 vessels per day to just 4–6. While Iran maintains the passage is open, transit is now largely limited to Iran-linked ships and vessels tied to ‘friendly’ countries such as Russia or China, and a smaller group operating under special permissions or high-risk commercial incentives.
