Rockets light up the sky during traditional Easter “Rocket War” on Chios Island

The traditional “Rocket War” (Rouketopolemos) took place in the Vrontados neighbourhood of Chios Island, Greece, on Easter night, April 12. Congregations from the Saint Markos and Panagia Erithiani churches launched thousands of homemade rockets at each other’s bell towers, creating a spectacular display of fireworks in the sky. Protective measures were in place, and small fires were quickly extinguished by emergency services.
