Rescue operation underway after Philippines building collapse near Manila

Rescue crews in the Philippines are searching for survivors after a nine-storey building under construction collapsed in Angeles City, north of Manila. At least one person has died, while dozens of construction workers were trapped beneath the rubble after the structure suddenly gave way early on Sunday. Witnesses said the building collapsed within seconds, sending dust and debris across the area. Authorities say the first confirmed victim was a Malaysian hotel guest staying next door after debris crashed into his room. More than 20 people have been rescued alive, while relatives continue waiting for news of missing workers. Emergency teams say the site remains highly unstable, slowing rescue operations and raising safety concerns for responders. Officials are investigating whether an unauthorised rooftop swimming pool may have contributed to the collapse.
