WTOL11An airport in New Jersey had to temporarily close on Monday after a private plane dramatically skidded off the runway. The Learjet 60 business-class jet overran the runway at Teterboro Airport and crashed into a bed of crushable concrete blocks, known as an Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS), which are installed at the end of a runway to safely stop aircraft.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department (PAPD) said the plane was landing at the airport around 6:30 p.m. when the incident occurred. There were six people aboard the private plane at the time, but officials said that there were no reported injuries. Operations at Bergen County’s Teterboro Airport, a small two-runway airport located around 12 miles west of New York City, were suspended for around an hour as the Port Authority’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting unit responded to the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration said departures from the airport were delayed by around 45 minutes amid the disruption. The runway was eventually reopened around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. It was not immediately clear what caused the private plane to overshoot the runway as it came in to land. Read it at New York PostRead more at The Daily Beast.
