KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man was shot and killed after allegedly pulling a firearm on the police at the intersection of Mona Road and Karachi Drive in St Andrew on Thursday night.Up to press time Friday morning, the man was still unidentified.Reports indicate that around 8:25 pm, a police team travelling in an unmarked service vehicle was on a covert operation in the Mona, Pine of Karachi and Beverly Hills area in relation to a shooting incident that took place in Beverly Hills earlier in the day.While heading along the intersection, a man fitting the description of one of the suspects was seen walking along Mona Road.

Acting on the description and intelligence, the team approached the alleged suspect, shouted police” and instructed him not to move.The police reported that the suspect pulled up his shirt, reached for his waistband and held on to a firearm. The cops then opened fire, hitting the now-deceased, who fell along the roadway.The injured man was searched, and a Hi-Point pistol with a magazine containing five live rounds was reportedly retrieved from his waistband.He was immediately transported to the University of the West Indies Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.The Independent Commission of Investigation is probing the shooting.
