It's been four years since Israeli forces shot and killed veteran Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh The veteran Palestinian-American correspondent was covering an Israeli raid in Jenin refugee camp, while wearing a clearly marked press vest, standing among several other journalists. That's when an Israeli soldier shot her in the neck and killed her.

She was 51. Palestinian journalist Ali al-Samoudi was near Shireen when she was killed. He was also injured during the Israeli attack. A year ago, Israeli authorities arrested the 59-year-old and held him without charge or trial. He was one of more than a hundred Palestinian journalists who have been detained and imprisoned since October the 7th, 2023. He was recently released and he returned with significant weight loss. Despite everything, Ali al-Samoudi is still committed to sharing Shireen's story. Al Jazeera’s Nida Ibrahim reports from Jenin, occupied West Bank.
