Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has authorised direct negotiations with Lebanon “as soon as possible”. He said peace talks with the Lebanese government will include the disarmament of Hezbollah. This comes hours after the Lebanese government called for direct talks with Israel after more than 200 people were killed in Israeli attacks.
