More Finns file debt restructuring petitions in Q1

Number of petitions for restructuring of debts increased by 11.9 per cent in Finland in January to March 2026 compared to the stipulated period of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland. About 1,481 debt restructuring petitions of private persons were filed with district courts in the first quarter of this year, said a press release on Wednesday.

Altogether 50.0 per cent of debt restructuring petitions were filed by men and 50.0 per cent by women in January to March 2026. Earlier on Tuesday, Statistics Finland said that a total of 609,971 debtors faced enforcement matters in Finland in 2025. At the end of 2025, the number of debtors in enforcement matters was 256,061 and their total debt in recovery proceedings was EUR 8.0 billion.
