Mark Carney says Canada’s US ties have become a ‘weakness’ which must be ‘corrected’

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney has suggested his country’s ties with the United States have become a weakness. In a video message, Mr Carney expressed his concern around trade with the US. “Many of our former strengths, based on our close ties to America, have become our weaknesses, weaknesses that we must correct,” he said. “The US has changed, and we must respond.” Canada, which sends almost 70 per cent of its exports to the US, is due to review its trilateral free trade treaty.
